Rev. Dr. Louis Threatt

Rev. Dr. Louis Threatt is a pastor, activist, entrepreneur, professor, and a man that loves God and his family. Born in Sacramento, Ca. and later raised in Atlanta, Ga. He is a veteran of the United States Air Force. Dr. Threatt has degrees in Physics, with a minor in Mathematics from NC Central University, a Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School with a focus on Prison Studies and a Doctor of Ministry from Drew University with a focus on Pastoral Care and Incarceration, addressing how to become a RE-Entry church. 

Dr. Threatt teaches, studies, and ministers at the intersection of prisons, Restorative Justice, Practical Theology, and Biblical Studies. He is particularly interested in the theologies that emerge and how The Spirit moves from within incarcerated life and life after prison. He serves as a Special programs Instructor at Duke Divinity School, teaching and assisting with the Prison Studies certificate helping students to think theologically about prison ministry and Restorative Justice. He is the Founder and Executive Director of UR Restored Ministries Inc., a Certified Notary Public for North Carolina, and Senior Pastor of Cities of Refuge Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Dr. Threatt recently served as the Senior Chaplain at Orange Correctional Center and as the Executive Director of the Alamance Orange Prison Ministry where he oversaw all religious needs for over two hundred and fifty men. Dr. Threatt is an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and has served in several roles such as Senior Pastor, Interim Pastor, Campus Minister at NCCU, High School Science and Math Teacher, GED Instructor in Durham County Jail, a Chaplain in several capacities such as in the Federal Prison, Wake Med Health and Hospitals, and C.A. Dillon (a youth detention center). Other work experience includes working as an Aircraft Electrician, Graphic designer, Nuclear Physicist, Biomedical Technician, a Counselor/Mentor for Inner-City youth, and Director of Project TURN, which creates an academic learning environment for Duke and incarcerated students to learn alongside in the state and federal prisons.

In addition, he serves on several boards and organizations such as, School for Conversion, and Father to the Fatherless. Dr. Threatt volunteers in several prisons and is a facilitator for RJ Durham with the Religious Coalition of Nonviolent Durham. He is a sought-after preacher and motivational speaker in the State and Federal prisons, High Schools, Middle schools, Colleges, and Universities. He is a lifetime member of the NAACP, and a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.  

Rev. Dr. Louis Threatt resides in Durham, NC with his wife and daughter. He has a passion for communing with those on the margins, love for all youth, and dedication to serving all God’s people.
